Macon-Hall Elementary PTA

Accelerated Reader (AR) Program

Dive into books! Macon-Hall utilizes the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. AR is an innovative program that combines carefully selected books with easy-to-use software to test reading comprehension. Students select AR books from the libary. The books range in reading levels and point value. When the student is finished reading the book, he/she takes a computerized test featuring multiple choice comprehension questions. Reading points are awarded based on the book's point value and the number of correct answers.

To get the students excited about the AR program, award ceremonies are held several times throughout the year to recognize each student who has earned AR points. For the 2007-2008 school year, students will receive reading "dog tags" he/she can proudly wear around their neck. The number of tags each child receives is based on the number of AR points the child earned for the period.

Exceptional readers for each grade level will have their picture displayed on the "Accelerated Reader Wall of Fame." Students who reach the following point level for their grade will be showcased on the wall:

Kindergarten - 15 pts.

1st grade - 25 pts.

2nd grade - 40 pts.

3rd grade - 50 pts.

4th grade - 75 pts.

5th grade - 100 pts.
